I'm grateful to have a job. I just hope that someday in my life, I can have one that I don't despise.

"Every other day, every other day

Every other day of the week is fine, yeah

But whenever Monday comes

But whenever Monday comes

You can find me crying all of the time."

What do you do?

I am a contract attorney, using nearly none of my brain and nothing I learned in school. Nearly 20 years of school.

Kinja'd!!!

I fake a fucking Australian accent when I'm bored.

I intentionally say "good morning" to customers until at least 430 in the afternoon.

And I say it like I'm Robin Williams in Good Morning Vietnam.

Do I sound like someone who has a satisfying job?

I worked my ass off for my Bachelor's Degree and it is utterly useless. I can't move because I am the only family my grandparents have here and they rely on me a lot as they get older. But this town just has no opportunities. The median annual income here for an individual is $23,000, if that tells you anything.

I work for a large mortgage servicer and I edit customer facing letters (letters we send when a customer's payment is wrong, they send too much money, they send their money to the wrong place, etc.). It's a menial, boring, low-paying cubicle job. A la "Office Space." And it's the best I can do. It pays $24,000 a year and has no room for advancement and is just overall really pitiful.

But, in this town, there are four options for work. The hospital (be a doctor or nurse), drive two hours (literally) one way and work at an aluminum plant, work fast food/retail, or work for the mortgage servicer that I work for. That's it. You want an actual career? You'll have to move. It blows.

Move. You have one life. Your grandparents will find help elsewhere.

I joined the Air Force after high school, no plans for a career, GI Bill and get out. 23 years later, I retired, now working as a civilian for the govt. I moved about every 5 years, which was painful but kept things interesting, and always provided new perspectives and opportunities.

We get one shot on this great big ball we call Earth, we got to do what we can to make the most of it.

Man that sounds awful... Is there anything you've wanted to do, maybe something you could start on your own? A job with incentives goes a long way.

Even here in NYC the job options are narrowing. The one percent will have to find a way for us to earn a living, or they will be overrun.

Just bought a new house. Haha. Not moving. I lost both of my parents before the age of 11, and my grandparents always have been my parents, basically. I don't want to desert them as they get older. Kind of a dick move, especially considering how much they've done for me throughout my life.

I've pretty much accepted I'll always have a job I dislike or at least don't enjot fully. Some days it just gets to me more than others.

I like cars, obviously. They're my obsession. But I'm not a mechanic or anything close to it. And my people skills suck thanks to my temperament - so car salesman is out, too.

I'm kind of stuck in this job, since I've been accused of "job switching" a lot and I need to stick with a job for a while to help out my resume and my credibility to future employers.

What about being in charge of an automotive company or suppliers social media & marketing? You may have to start somewhere smaller like an aftermarket company possibly to build your resume, but you could work your way up. You could even do it on the side while keeping your day job at first.

I love it when I accidentally do it to one of our regulars. They just look at me and are like.....

Are you on drugs?
